From 4000 BC to today- how beauty is about style and knows no gender
For generations makeup is seen only a girls thing, so we have forget that it wasn't always that way. For centuries going back to 4000 BC through the 18th century men are using makeup in different ways. It wasn't until the mid 1800s the makeup was related to the one specific gender. It was only in 20th century makeup and skin care is looked upon to the other side of the gender spectrum i.e. a girl only
From ancient Egyptians to Romans they all have worn makeup
Masculinity was an important aspect of the ancient Egyptian culture and makeup actually played a role in that. Men use black pigment to create cat-eye design, green malachite eye shadow, lip and cheek tint.
It was not to look attractive but the green color eye shadow to evoke gods Horus and Ra and the dramatic eyes is a symbol of power,wealth and status
Moving to the 1st century AD ancients Romans were known to apply red pigments on their cheeks, lighten their skin with powder and paint their nails using pig fat and blood.
Men's makeup is not a new phenomenon. Male courtiers in 18th century has worn it. Cosmetics are popular among the South Korean men.
Meanwhile brands like cover girl and maybelline has featured men in their ads. As the rising trend of social media taking up place one can see the male makeup artist influencers
cosmetics and skin care is once again not gender specific anymore brands are making men's range products which are on the rise.
Using makeup is a self -expression
